AbstractLand surface reflectances like all-shortwave (albedo), photosynthetically-active radiation (PAR) and near and middle infrared (NI) in Amazonian region were estimated using Landsat 5 Thematic Mapper (TM) images. To obtain the albedo and visible and near/mid infrared reflectance values, the formula proposed by Liang (2000), adapted by Pereira et al. (2006), was used. In order to verify the method accuracy, comparisons between estimated surface albedo and observational data set, obtained during the Anglo-Brazilian Amazonian Climate Observation Study (ABRACOS) project, was accomplished at the experimental site of primitive forest in the Biological Reserve of Jaru in Ji-Paraná - Rondonia. In general, this method was able to simulate the albedo values as compared with the ground measurements performed in the field. The observed differences for albedo was 0.62% with standard deviations of 3.23% for all days analyzed.
